I just completed the Kentucky Derby Festival mini-Marathon on April 24, 2010! You can read a recap of the race here.
In order to prepare, I went through 16 weeks of training. Some were good, some not so much (thanks to Mother Nature). But having a program to follow, even if you have to make your own adjustments, keeps you motivated and working toward your goal of finishing the race.
I kept this here and updated it each week to show my readers what I was doing and I decided to save it starting at Week 11. I will keep this here until another one takes its place

Thursday – 5 miles Elliptical, abs
Friday – Cross training/Elliptical, weights
Saturday – Snowman Shuffle race (4 miles)
Week 10 (Feb 14-20)
Sunday – REST
Monday – 5 miles Snow
Tuesday – 2 miles + Weights
Wednesday – 5 miles 4 miles
Thursday – 2 miles + Weights + Elliptical trainer
Friday – 3.36 miles, abs
Saturday – Zumba!
Week 9 (Feb 21-27)
Sunday – Urban Iron (Body Pump class)
Monday – 5 miles
Tuesday - Weights Yoga class, Abs, 20 minute incline walk
Wednesday – 5 miles 2 miles + Weight training
Thursday - Weights 3 miles + Yoga class
Friday – Cross train or rest Yoga class
Saturday - 9 miles? 4 miles + Yoga
Week 8 (Feb 28 – Mar 6)
Sunday – Rest Urban Iron (Body Pump)
Monday – 4 miles 6 miles!
Tuesday – 3 miles + Weights Jackie Warner’s Total Body Workout program
Wednesday – 5 miles Yoga
Thursday – 3.1 miles (treadmill)
Friday – 2 miles
Saturday – Anthem 5K race! (3.1 miles)
Week 7 (Mar 7 – 13)
Sunday – Walked the dog, 2 miles
Monday – 5 miles
Tuesday – 2 miles + weights
Wednesday – 5 miles Walked the dog for an hour
Thursday – 3 miles + Weights Walked the dog for an hour
Friday – Cross train (Yoga)
